Assignment 2B

What does MoLAA stand for? .25 percent
Museum of Latin American Art

What are the video clips about (be specific)? .25 percent
The first one is about what the museum is, what there goal are and where they are heading specifically. This is a video to get donations. The second video was just a virtual tour of the current or maybe the permanent exhibition. They showed the information of a piece and then the piece of art itself, usually from different angles. The third video I watched was just an advertisement for MoLAA so it was just about getting people to come to the museum and knowing what activities to look for.

What did you learn from the video clips (3 facts per clip; total 9 facts)?1.5 percent

Video1-
First thing that I learned is that this museum is not just for latin americans but that many people from very different backgrounds visit this museum and learn a lot from it.
Also one of the main goals of the museum is not to be just a museum to be more than that to teach people of the history and spirit of latin america, the art is a main portion of that but not all of it.
Also I learned that they have a permanent collection that represents culture from all over the continent. Most of the artist are alive today and lived in latin america and are contemporary artist. Some are very well known and some are only known to their region.
Lastly I learned about the artist Jorge Martin. He makes mexican sculptures. He is not well known in the United States but is in Mexico. Having his exhibit at MoLAA allowed him to get popular and the exhibit did so well that they had to extend it three extra months.

Video 2-
Well from what I read in this video I learned that Diego Linares oil painting called Perfil was made in Argentina in 1965. I also really liked “The Big Hand” from Fernanado Botero that is from Colombia in 1932. And last but not least I really liked “THe Yellow Bath Tub” from Gonzalo Cienfuegos made in 1949 in Chile.

Video 3-
I was not able to access the regular video so I did the LAX Magazines video on MoLAA. I learned that it is the only contemporary art museum in the entire western U.S. solely dedicated to the art and culture latin america.
Also I learned that they have different workshops for a variety of different ages and types of art every sunday from 1-3 p.m. and then they have musical guests usually playing from 3-5 p.m. in the gallery.
The third thing that I learned from this video is that they are open 6 days a week and its free on fridays.

Create 3 questions for your classmates based on the clips or websites (tell them which specific link to visit to find the answer) 1.5 percent
In video two who was the artist who made the Vendidora de Ayote?
In my video three, it tells the exact location of where MoLAA is. Where is it?
Also in my third video, how often do they have dance performances?

List any 3 things you learned from the MoLAA website (be specific; give concrete answers for which your classmates can follow-up in upcoming assignments) 1.5 percent
1. The Museum of Latin American Art (molaa) in Long Beach was founded by Dr. Robert Gumbiner in November 1996.
2. Between 1913 and 1918 the site that the museum now occupies was the home of Balboa Amusement Producing Company, then the world’s most productive and innovative silent film studio.
3. Before there was a Hollywood, Balboa was the king of the silver screen, producing as much as 20,000 feet of negative film a week.
